Frequently asked questions
Which car can I use for a Vicroads driving test?
Vicroads do not supply cars for driving tests. You can use your own car, or a friend/relative's car, however it must have a lever/pull-up handbrake (no button or pedal handbrakes). Alternatively you can book a driving instructor test appointment, using the instructor car for the Vicroads test, with driving instructor present in the passenger seat during your test.
I'd like to book a Vicroads driving test with you. What is the process?
Just find a preferred time and location on the Vicroads website for your driving test. Send me an email to check the times with me, and I'll confirm if I'm available to assist. If I'm available for your preferred test time, I'll open my schedule for test bookings on that date to allow you to book in for a drive test using my car. This is in addition to the drive test appointment that you make directly with Vicroads. You'll also need to review the Vicroads website checklist of prerequisite tasks (eg. Hazard Perception Test) to be completed prior to your test day.
What kinds of things do I need to practise for my Vicroads driving test?
Many students come to their first Vicroads drive test preparation lesson just wanting to know how to reverse parallel park and 3-point turn. There is a great deal more that Vicroads requires of you on your driving test: correct procedural observation, signalling, gap selection, speed choice, following distance, lateral position and car control. For example, as part of the gap selection criteria - if your decisions cause another road user to slow or move around you, it can very quickly result in a test termination.
Test preparation lessons will help you learn correct test procedures and provide valuable insights into various areas of your Vicroads drive test, however you will need to practise enough after your lessons to become proficient and familiar with the various procedures so that it becomes habit.
How much of a manual car driving test is manual-specific?
Most people are very surprised to hear that, if you can comfortably drive a manual car smoothly, then no part of the driving test is manual-specific - with the minor exception of using neutral instead of park gear, and not using neutral at any other time. 99.9% of your Vicroads drive test is focused on smooth car control, exceptional observation skills, and correct habits and procedures. Manual gears play almost no part in your driving test if you can competently use gears and clutch!
How are you different from other driving instructors or driving schools?
We are dedicated to teaching neurodivergent learners and providing a positive experience through inclusive and supportive driving instruction tailored to meet their unique individual needs. I primarily work with neurodivergent learners whereas other instructors focus on neurotypical learners .Over the years, i have been trained to understand and address the various challenges that neurodivergent individuals may face. We offer personalized lesson plans that prioritize clear communication, patience, and a step-by-step approach to learning. By creating a calm and structured and controlled learning environment, we aim to build confidence and competence behind the wheel. We also collaborate with learners and their families to ensure that each learner receives the guidance and support they need to succeed. Each learner is different and our aim is to make driving a safe and empowering experience for everyone.
